Tokyo and all of Japan use Japan Standard Time (JST), nine hours ahead of UTC. Japan has not observed daylight saving time since 1951, so the offset never changes.

Business hours
Standard office hours are around 09:00–18:00, Monday to Friday. The Tokyo Stock Exchange trades from 09:00 with a midday break, closing in the mid-afternoon.
Time differences that change
Although Japan never changes its clocks, its difference to Europe and North America changes when those regions do. Tokyo is 9 hours ahead of London in winter but 8 hours ahead in summer, and 14 hours ahead of New York in winter but 13 in summer.
Because of the large gap with the Americas, a Tokyo morning is still the previous evening in New York and Los Angeles — always check the date when scheduling.
Early sunrises
Japan uses a single time zone for an archipelago stretching nearly 3,000 km, and Tokyo sits in the east of it. Summer sunrises arrive around 04:25, among the earliest of any major capital.
