GMT time now
Greenwich Mean Time · UTC+0

Greenwich Mean Time is the time at the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London. Today it is defined as UTC+0, and it is the winter time of the United Kingdom as well as the year-round time of countries such as Iceland, Ghana and Senegal.

GMT or BST? Which one does the UK use?

In summer, UK clocks run one hour ahead of GMT: the UK is then on British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1), not GMT. The UK clock above always shows the actual time in London, so you can tell the two apart at a glance.

Many schedules say “GMT” when they really mean “UK time”. If a meeting is set for 15:00 GMT in July, check whether the organiser means 15:00 in London (BST) — that would be 14:00 GMT.

GMT and UTC

GMT and UTC show the same time on everyday clocks. UTC is the precise atomic-clock standard; GMT is the name of the time zone. Software and aviation use UTC, while “GMT” remains common in everyday speech and on UK broadcasts.

Daylight saving time

GMT itself never changes. The UK leaves GMT for British Summer Time on the last Sunday of March and returns on the last Sunday of October.
