Pacific Time is the clock of California and the rest of the US West Coast. Because the region observes daylight saving time, it runs on PST only in winter and on PDT from March to November. The main clock shows the current Los Angeles time with the label that applies right now.
PST versus PDT
PST is UTC−8; PDT is UTC−7. Calendar invitations that say “PST” in summer usually mean Pacific Time (PDT). To avoid confusion, write “PT” or name the city.
Pacific Time and Arizona
Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) does not observe daylight saving time. In summer, Phoenix shows the same time as Los Angeles; in winter it is one hour ahead. That is why “Mountain Time” and “Pacific Time” overlap for half the year.
Daylight saving time
The West Coast switches from PST to PDT at 2:00 a.m. local time on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November.
