Where Beijing Time comes from
Beijing Time is generated and broadcast by the National Time Service Center near Xi’an in Shaanxi province, chosen for its central location — so the official time of the capital is actually kept about 900 km away from it.
Long winter nights
Beijing lies at about 40° north. In December the sun rises after 7:30 and sets before 17:00; in June it rises before 5:00. With no daylight saving time, summer evenings are bright but mornings start very early.
